video installation
editing (adobe premiere pro) + installation design + setup

story

Recently, I've been thinking a lot about the distinction we make between "humans" and "animals," and the division that results. I wanted to make a video installation that attempted to convey a sense of interconnectedness between the voices of our world: all of them. Because just as this planet faces severe biodiversity loss, so too are we experiencing a steep decline in cultural diversity. I do not believe that anyone, of any culture or species, human and nonhuman beings alike, is "better" than anyone else. We are all just struggling to live and exist. And we all just want our voices to be heard.

overview

  • video:

    • Made up entirely of archival/stock footage edited together in Adobe Premiere Pro

    • two-channel video installation (2 projectors), displaying 5 video sources each (10 total)

    • I tried to cover as many languages, cultures, habitats, and species as | could, across all continents, from Mongolian, Okinawan, and Yoruba, to Hebrew, Guarani, and Ukranian, and from humpback whales, leopard seals, and bullfrogs, to arctic wolves, cheetahs, and puffins.

  • installation:

    • created installation using Unistrut ceiling grid (accessed with electric scissor lift) + projector mounts

      • created a room with blackout/masking curtains, with white sheeting/fabric overlaid as projection surfaces

      • projected videos onto two adjacent walls (at corner) w/ 2x AAXA P7 Mini Projectors to surround the viewer (and immerse them as much as possible within the low time/budget requirements)
